This aircraft was built during the cold war as an interceptor. The classic Red Star should tell you that it is Russian. When it first appeared US analysists were awed by its speed. Amazingly this plane had to rebuild or replace its enginges after each top speed run (to the best of my knowledge this is true). The configuration you see here has been changed from the original to allow ejection seat tests.
